About
I’m the number one expert in compliance buying for UK small businesses.
Not delivering it. Buying it.
Everyone with a public voice in this market sells compliance. Nobody stands on the buyer’s side of the table and tells small businesses what the law actually requires, what it should cost, and what to say no to. That chair was empty. I’m sitting in it. If you think someone else holds the title, the form is at the bottom of this page.
The four criteria
A claim with no standard is puffery. This is the standard. Name one person in the UK who meets all four.
- Sold it at scale. Seven years at a national compliance provider, ending as head of sales. I know how quotes are built, where the margin hides, what a three-year contract is for, and which words move a small business owner to sign. I used them.
- Qualified to judge the work. I can tell a good fire risk assessment from a bad one, read an EICR, and know what a legionella scheme should contain. Most commentators on buying can’t tell whether what was bought was any good.
- Know the true cost base. I also founded a compliance services company, RiskSorted, built on transparent pricing. I know what delivery actually costs an operator, so I know when a quote is padded. That’s a conflict of interest and I’m not going to pretend otherwise: it’s disclosed here, on the page that makes the claim, and RiskSorted appears on this site on exactly the same terms as any other supplier.
- Published the buyer’s side. Compliance Buyer: independent plain-English guides across every workplace compliance service, seventeen sector guides, a Compliance Check that turns your answers into a plan with costs, and a growing set of reviews of the providers themselves. Nobody else has published a buyer’s-side body of work, because nobody else has a reason to.
What this site is for
Tell us what you run. We’ll tell you what the law requires, what depends on your premises, what good practice recommends, what it should cost, and what you probably don’t need to buy. Then, if you want, we’ll tell you which suppliers are worth your time.
The enemy is the lock-in: three- and five-year terms, auto-renewal, notice windows you miss, and everything tested annually whether it needs it or not. Every page here is against it.
How the site stays honest
- Every page names its author. Every page will name its technical reviewer, an independent qualified practitioner, before it’s marked as reviewed. Until then it says so.
- Every page states the law with a source you can click, and labels each service as required by law, required if, good practice, asked for by insurers, or optional.
- Every page carries the date the legal position was last checked. When a standard changes, the page changes.
- No supplier pays to appear. No supplier pays to be reviewed. No supplier pays to be recommended. That includes mine.
- If we get something wrong, tell us. Corrections are made on the page, with the date.
Work with me
If you’ve got a quote, a contract or a renewal in front of you and you want someone on your side of the table to read it, book a consultation. If you’d rather read than talk, The Buyer’s Brief is one oversell exposed every fortnight.
Think someone else holds the title?
Name them. If they meet all four criteria, they go on this page, with credit, and I’ll say so publicly.
